In 1970, the National Basketball Association granted three new franchises. The three franchises were the Cleveland Cavaliars, Portland Trail Blazers and Buffalo Braves.
The Cavaliers have not won a National Basketball Association Championship. Their best season was in 2007 when they were defeated by the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA finals. The Cavaliers defeated the Washington Wizzards in the first round, the New Jersey Nets in the conference semifinals and the Detroit Pistons in the conference finals before losing to the San Antonio Spurs.
