Palace at Auburn Hills has been home of the Detroit Pistons since the arena opened in 1988. Before moving to Auburn Hills the Pistons played their home games in the Silverdome in Pontiac from 1978 until 1988.

The Detroit Pistons moved to Michigan in 1957. The franchise originally was the Fort Wayne Pistons, which joined the NBA in 1948.

The franchise has appeared in the NBA Finals seven times, winning three times. The last two appearances were back to back in 2004 and 2005. They defeated the Los Angeles Lakers four games to one in 2004 and were defeated by the San Antonio Spurs in 2005.
