Verizon Center in downtown Washington has been home of the Washington Wizards and National Hockey League Washington Capitals since the arena opened in 1997.

Washington Wizards History
The Washington Wizards started National Basketball Association history as the expansion Chicago Packers in 1962. The Chicago franchise moved to Baltimore in 1963 and bacame the Bullets. The team moved to Washington and kept the Bullets name for a while and finally became the Washington Wizards in 1997.
The Baltimore Bullets won the NBA playoffs in 1978.
